WONGDOODY

Eclectic Internet has partnered with WONGDOODY, a Seattle- and LA-based ad agency, on numerous projects over the last several years. Joint clients have included Alaska Airlines, Real Networks, Sierra Online and Widmer Brothers Brewery. Weve provided these clients with many online interactive solutions, ranging from simple ad banners to highly interactive web-based applications that tie in with the other aspects of a fully-integrated marketing campaign. Together, WONGDOODY and Eclectic have provided these clients with a full suite of marketing avenues, with Eclectic being the sole provider of interactive development.

Additionally, Eclectic Internet developed the WONGDOODY corporate website in 2000, which showcases the agencys impressive portfolio and client list, and highlights the companys philosophy and capabilities. The site also features press releases and job opportunities that are maintained by WONGDOODY staff via web-based administration pages. Eclectic continues to work closely with WONGDOODY, developing the interactive elements of their ad campaigns, as well as assisting with their website maintenance.

The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa

One year prior to the resorts actual opening date, Eclectic Internet designed and developed a two-piece online marketing tool to assist the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in providing function space information to meeting planners as well as to the general public. The applications needed to be efficient in design and delivery, functioning properly on a wide array of platforms and operating systems. The information had to be presented in an intuitive manner as well, ensuring that planners would use the tool, and therefore be more likely to book space with the Westin resort.

Initially we developed for Kierland a meeting planner brochure, a stand-alone electronic brochure developed in Macromedia Flash that could be e-mailed to anyone and saved to any machine for future reference. In addition to containing much of the information one would find in a traditional print brochure, our e-brochure added an interactive element that allows users to interact with floor plans to get room capacity information on the fly. Additionally, Eclectic Internet developed the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa website. We integrated the interactive floor map elements from the e-brochure into the site, which also features construction updates, in-depth information on area golf and shopping, and important contact information.

WSDOT

The Washington State Department of Transportation website contains information culled from many different sources and departments, providing state citizens with a variety of useful information, including up-to-the-minute traffic flow maps, weather and other travel information. Eclectic Internet has recently assisted in the restructuring of portions of the existing WSDOT site, resulting in a more manageable design that allows for flexibility in the presentation of a great variety of content.

Additionally, we re-designed navigation elements, created various custom logos for different WSDOT programs, consulted with state employees on how to more intelligently display information to the public, and developed interactive map applications to assist website users in getting to the information they wished to see more efficiently. All this, along with the general restructuring of the site, has made the WSDOT site more efficient and intuitive from the end-users standpoint.

Wilmer Communications

Wilmer Communications, a Seattle-based ad agency specializing in providing traditional marketing materials to the hospitality industry, initially contacted Eclectic Internet to develop their corporate website in 2001. Featuring their portfolio, client list and employee bios, the site was developed entirely in Macromedia Flash, and was launched in January of 2002.

Along the way, Eclectic Internet collaborated with Wilmer to brainstorm online materials that could be developed specifically for the hotel industry. Out of these joint idea sessions was born the award-winning electronic brochure, or e-brochure, developed to target meeting planners in hopes of increasing function space bookings for the hotel properties. In the first half of 2002 alone, Eclectic Internet has designed and developed over 20 e-brochures for a variety of hotels including brochures for the W Hotels, Sheraton and Westin properties.

Seattle Seahawks

Eclectic Internet has been developing and implementing the Seattle Seahawks online and presentation-based marketing materials since 1999. Our first major piece of work for the Seahawks was the creation and development of an interactive Flash-based presentation to showcase Suites and Club Seats at the recently completed new Seahawks Stadium near downtown Seattle. The presentation combined animation, an original score, and interactive map features that allowed the presenter to clearly convey to each audience all the amenities for each Suite or Club Seat package. The presentation was shown at the Seahawks marketing center the entire year prior to the completion of the stadium, with 60% of suites selling in the first two months alone.

In 2000, Eclectic created another Flash-based presentation for the Seahawks marketing team to use to sell signage and other advertising opportunities in the new stadium. This presentation combined architectural renderings and floor plans with interactive stadium maps, resulting in a powerful Flash application that was highly successful in selling ad space at the new stadium.

In 2001, Eclectic adapted the existing Suite presentation materials and incorporated new architectural renderings to create new web-based view from your seat maps for the Seattle Seahawks website. Four maps were developed for each of the main seating types: Suites, Club Seats, Charter Seats, and General Seating. The maps were created to give potential online season- and package-ticket buyers more incentive to make their purchase, having seen their seat views before the stadium was even completed.

Starwood Hotels

Beginning in summer of 2001, Eclectic Internet has developed over twenty web-based electronic meeting planner brochures for a variety of Starwood properties, including the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass, the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, and all four of the W Hotels located in New York City. Developed using Macromedia Flash, the primary feature of each electronic brochure is the interactive floor plan and capacity chart section that visually represents to potential meeting planners the propertys meeting space seating capabilities. Each brochure also features rich photography, as well as overview, location and contact information.

Many of these brochures are produced up to a year prior to the hotel propertys opening date, giving the hotel a jump-start on securing meeting space reservations months in advance. The e-brochures can be posted on a website, delivered to recipients via e-mail attachment, or stored locally on a users hard drive for easy access.

Widmer Brothers Brewery

In Spring of 2000, Eclectic teamed with WONGDOODY to launch a very successful integrated marketing campaign that tied together traditional forms of advertising like radio spots and billboards, with a large online interactive component that we developed exclusively. The campaign, dubbed Widmer Boys Mysteries hinged upon several coded messages that were put up on billboards and in magazine ads, that, along with the radio spots, prompted the viewer or listener to visit a special website to decode the messages.

Eclectic designed and implemented the entire mystery website, which included many interactive features developed in Macromedia Flash. Among them were the decoder device, where the user could turn the dial to the appropriate letter to decode the messages from the magazines and billboards, a fun mystery story where the user was allowed to submit a list of words, resulting in a mad-lib story, and a find a clue game where the users could drag a magnifying glass over photos to search for hidden images. The site also featured original score composed exclusively for Widmer by Eclectic Internet. Altogether, the site was extremely interactive, offering a variety of games for each site visitor.

Additionally, we constructed a fulfillment element that allowed users to sign up via a small web-based form, which stored their information in a database. Once the user had correctly decoded all five messages, they were mailed an exclusive Widmer Brothers t-shirt and other prizes.

The Westin Seattle

The Westin Seattle is the most recent member of the Starwood Hotel family for whom we have developed an electronic meeting planner brochure. The interactive nature of the application, along with its slim file size and informative nature, make it an extremely attractive tool for meeting planners to use over and over again to book function space with the Westin.

Developed entirely in Macromedia Flash, the brochure can be posted to a website, or e-mailed and saved to any hard drive as a stand-alone application, regardless of platform or operating system. Meeting planners can determine exact numbers for various room setups with a simple click of the mouse. Because the e-brochure is a simple click away, the odds greatly increase that they will book space with this property rather than another hotel that lacks this sort of interactive tool.

Crystal Mountain Ski Resort

Eclectic Internet collaborated with Crystal Mountain to develop a system that allows Crystal staff to deliver custom e-mail to their entire online subscriber list, informing each and every one exactly how much new snow has fallen, down to the inch. The application, which was developed for Crystal staff to run themselves via web-based controls, became known as the Crystal Mountain Powder Alert system.

In order to send E-mail Alerts early enough to inform users when new powder had fallen at Crystal Mountain, the entire process, from a Crystal Mountain staff members standpoint, had to be executed quickly and easily, with just a few mouse clicks. In addition, a Macromedia Flash animation was incorporated into the e-mail to present the Powder Alerts to deliver the snow totals in a visually compelling manner. The application was employed daily this season, and was a great success in keeping Washington skiers informed of ski conditions up at the resort.

Continental Mills

Continental Mills, ready to take their site to the next level, first contacted Eclectic in 1999 to look at the site and make recommendations for improvements. First and foremost, we saw the immediate benefits of having a dynamic site served from a database. Adding a data store and ASP technology streamlined the site considerably. As it stood, making even the simplest changes to the site would require an unacceptable number of man-hours. Cutting the site from over 600 separate html documents to a mere 7 ASP pages would enable the client to easily and efficiently update the site as they saw fit.

We continuously consult with Continental Mills, discussing, proposing and developing additional components for the site. Recently we have added new brands to the Continental Mills site, including the Ghirardelli and Sunmaid brands, as well as a product locator feature to assist visitors in finding the closest retail outlets that carry the various Continental Mills brands. These are easy to implement thanks to the thought put into the site before undertaking development using a dynamic ASP solution.

Alaska Airlines

In 2001, Eclectic Internet developed the Alaska Airlines Advertising Repository, a client-managed site, which allows Alaska Airlines or their advertising agency, WONGDOODY, to upload files as a way to archive and present their advertising to the public. This feature was incorporated into the WONGDOODY client management site to facilitate communication between WONGDOODY and Alaska Airlines by providing additional online project management tools.

The client management site allows the client and customer to efficiently communicate using custom calendars and applications that are tailor-made for their particular industry. WONGDOODY uses the secured website to distribute corporate graphic standards, share budget information, and disseminate a wide range of industry specific media information, like ISCI codes, radio taglines, media flowcharts, and status reports. The Client Management Application allows a large group to share information and communicate efficiently from anywhere, all through a simple web browser.

University of Washington

The Physicians Resource Network (PRN) at the University of Washington Medical Center is responsible for distributing drug interaction notices through their website. In 2000, they approached Eclectic after realizing that rapidly increasing volume had made their present execution inefficient and outdated. It had become difficult for PRN to manage and a struggle for doctors to keep up with the long list of drug interactions.

Eclectic proposed an ideal solution for the Physicians Resource Network website: a data driven application that included subscription and information distribution applications. In order to ensure easy access to critical information and point-and-click distribution of new information, all archived reports were first imported into a database and then a dynamic site was constructed using a system of forms, form handlers and an email distribution channel. Drug interaction reports are now emailed directly to the subscription list of doctors. Physicians can search, sort and filter through the thousands of records quickly and easily to remain informed about drug interactions for their patients.

Please take a moment and browse our case studies by selecting from the companies listed below.

Portland Trailblazers

Moving to a new medium in advertising and marketing is an important step for businesses entering the 21st century. Paul Allen's Portland Trail Blazers understand the need to integrate technology into the existing business model.

Within the Trail Blazer's office in Portland, Allen owns a number of independent businesses, which share the resources available at the Rose Quarter facility in Portland. From event management to software development and television production, the need to coordinate and communicate among a variety of complex businesses and departments becomes essential. The corporate intranet is the perfect place to facilitate communication, reduce paper flow and increase business efficiency.

In addition to work on the corporate intranet, Eclectic has also lent its talents to the commercial site, rosequarter.com. Rose Quarter Online provides event information through both traditional means and push technologies. Event listings are easily maintained by on-site event staff through web-based administration.

Interest-based emails are sent periodically by promoters and coordinators ensuring that users receive only information they choose as desirable during sign-up. These dynamic additions to the Rose Quarter Website have increased traffic dramatically by both new users and repeat users.

Built on a system of NT servers housing software such as Microsoft Site Server, SQL Server and Exchange, Eclectic and the Information Technology team at the Rose Quarter worked together to develop a system for streamlining business functions through the existing network. Searching employee records, publishing important documents and schedule interaction through the web browser have improved many functions that were previously slowed by paper distribution and traditional manual transactions.

Montrail

We have had the pleasure of maintaining a strong relationship with Montrail Outdoor Performance Footwear for over 5 years now. As their company has grown during this time, so have their online needs.

Montrail first approached us in 1997 knowing they needed to get online quickly to keep up with the emerging trend of online promotion and sales. During initial consultation we determined a course of action to feature online their complete 1998 line of footwear with descriptions and specifications, technical information regarding care and use of boots and accessories, and a way to purchase the boots online. Because the client did not wish to deal with developing and maintaining their own commerce site, or fulfillment of online orders, we developed both a Find a Dealer and Buy Online feature that would allow users to purchase Montrail boots and shoes through other online sellers.

During the initial consultation we determined it would benefit all parties involved if we took full advantage of Active Server Pages in developing the Montrail site. We developed and populated a database with all product information and served the data dynamically to the site upon each user visit. This allowed for efficient maintenance and future revision to the site. Eclectic Internet was entirely responsible for designing an efficient and intuitive means of navigation, information design and page layout, and development of all graphic design and imagery.

Since 1998, we have updated the site three times, once each for the 1999, 2000, and 2001 product lines. Each time we were able to easily replace the outdated data with the new because the site was originally designed using ASP and a database. We've also implemented a new graphic design each year to keep the site fresh and new, and to tie it in with new print materials and catalogues.

It has been a pleasure working with Montrail over the past several years. It's rewarding to witness a company embrace new media technology and exploit it to the fullest. We've enjoyed being a part of their business growth and we take extra pride in knowing that we have an ongoing role in their online success. It's also an added bonus working for a client whose product or service is something we ourselves believe in (our entire staff is outfitted with Montrail boots). We look forward to continuing our relationship with Montrail for a long time to come.

Continental Mills

Continental Mills, parent company of food products including Krusteaz, Alpine, and Classic Hearth, wished to showcase their products online, along with numerous recipes and an intelligent FAQ section for each product. Due to budget restraints, their initial site was built entirely using html pages.

When Continental Mills was ready to take their site to the next level we were contacted to look at the site and make recommendations for improvements. In addition, using standard means of image compression, we trimmed the numerous graphics down from over 6 Megs to a total of 2.2 Megs, making the site load into the browser 200% faster. The new dynamic site went live in July 1999.

We continuously consult with Continental Mills, discussing, proposing and developing additional components for the site. These are easy to implement thanks to the thought put into the site before undertaking development using a dynamic ASP solution. This is a shining example of Eclectic Internet's ability to provide big business technology coupled with a small business's attention to detail. We determine each client's exact needs and then plan for the best possible solution before writing even the first line of code.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks contracted Eclectic Internet to assist their marketing department in creating a one-of-a-kind presentation to sell suites and club seats in the new football stadium. Already well versed in Eclectics high standard of cutting-edge Flash presentation development from previous projects, the decision to team up again was easy.

While the marketing center in downtown Seattle was still being built, Eclectic began its own development. Inside the center, a full-scale replica of an actual 24-seat stadium suite was being built. However, instead of looking out onto the field, the front wall of the suite consisted of a 16-foot by 9-foot projection screen. Using the most advanced projection and superior-quality sound systems available, our presentation would be shown here several times a day over the next year.

The various technical aspects, as well as the scale of the projected image, were fairly new ground for us. We determined immediately that a specialized high-speed machine would be required to run the highly entertaining presentation at a level of quality expected by the Seahawks staff. By combining beautiful renderings supplied by the stadium architects with incredible audio tracks we produced in-house, we were able to create a high-impact, highly interactive presentation showcasing the new stadium. Additionally, we incorporated a feature allowing the audience to see the view from any seat in the stadium by allowing the presenter click any suite on the map of the stadium. This view from your seat became possible long before construction began on the stadium. The success of the Flash presentation is apparent, as after only 2 months, over 60% of the suites were already sold.

As the stadium neared completion, the Seahawks organization wished to target the general public to begin selling general seats. Again, the marketing division contacted Eclectic to assist in their efforts. We adapted the existing view from your seat presentation, creating four separate web-based applications to be integrated into their website. Using Flash, we developed interactive overhead maps of the stadium that would allow every user access to field views from Suites, Club Seats, the special Charter Seat sections, and from General seating. This interactive, intelligent display of information is a key aspect of the Seahawks online ticket sales efforts.

Crystal Mountain Ski Resort

Crystal Mountain is a ski resort that serves the most densely populated part of Western Washington. The management team at Crystal Mountain understands the importance of communicating with their clientele via new media, as their customer base has a higher average level of income, which equates to a higher rate of Internet usage. A continuous investor in their online presence, they hired Eclectic Internet in the fall of 2001 to develop an e-mail list serve application.

Through collaboration the E-mail Powder Alerts Project was born. Crystal staff wished for an easy way to get the word out to skiers when any substantial amount of snow had fallen the previous night. Eclectic Internet developed a system that allows Crystal Mountain staff to deliver custom e-mail to their entire online subscriber list as often as necessary, informing each and every one exactly how much new snow has fallen, down to the inch!

Two main forces drove the E-mail Powder Alerts Project: ease of administration and strong impact carried out in a timely manner. In order to send E-mail Alerts every morning early enough to inform users when new powder had fallen at Crystal Mountain, the entire process, from a Crystal Mountain staff members standpoint, had to be executed quickly and easily, with just a few mouse clicks. In addition, a Macromedia Flash animation was incorporated into the e-mail to present the Powder Alerts in a visually compelling manner. The application was employed daily this season, and was a great success in keeping Washington skiers informed of ski conditions up at the resort. Crystal Mountain, in turn, had one of their most successful seasons ever.

University of Washington Medical Center / Prescription Resource Network

The Physicians Resource Network (PRN) at the University of Washington Medical Center is responsible for distributing drug interaction notices through their website. Initially it was an efficient means of disseminating information to a network of 300+ doctors, but PRN soon became aware that rapidly increasing volume had made their execution inefficient and outdated. It had become difficult for PRN to manage and a struggle for doctors to keep up with the long list of drug interactions.

The ideal solution for the Physicians Resource Network website was a data driven application that included subscription and information distribution applications. In order to ensure easy access to critical information and point-and-click distribution of new information, all archived reports were first imported into a database and then a dynamic site was constructed using a system of forms, form handlers and an email distribution channel.

When submitted, drug interaction reports are now emailed directly to the subscription list of doctors. Physicians can visit the site to search, sort and filter through the thousands of records quickly and easily to remain informed about dangerous drug interactions for their patients. The project also includes channels for wireless devices for instant and remote access directly from the operating room, pharmacy or anywhere in the world.

Kierland Resort & Spa Website and E-Brochure

Eclectic Internet worked with Starwood Hotels to design and develop the website and electronic meeting planner brochure for the Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona. The website serves as an electronic version of existing print materials and offers other unique interactive features to users online. Both applications display pertinent information on the property, including interactive facilities maps and capacity charts for the meeting facilities, as well as important information on business and guest services. The initial user group of these tools consists primarily of salespersons and meeting planners, as the property construction will not be complete until fall of 2002.

Both the website and electronic meeting planner brochure are a valuable resource for the public and meeting planners alike. Ultimately these tools drive online sales for meeting space at the resort property. The Kierland Resort & Spa has already taken numerous reservations for both its indoor and outdoor meeting and function spaces, many months before the property construction is even complete and open to the public. Working closely with the Kierland marketing team, Eclectic has contributed an important online application that has increased room and event bookings, assuring a successful opening this fall.

Alaska Airlines Advertising Repository

The Alaska Airlines Advertising Repository is a client-managed site which allows Alaska Airlines or their advertising agency, WONGDOODY, to upload images, videos, audio clips and other files as a way to archive and present their advertising to the public. This feature is incorporated into the WONGDOODY client management site, which facilitates communication between WONGDOODY and Alaska Airlines by providing online project management tools.

Site administrators use a secured login to add, edit and remove content from the Ad Repository. The application is built to recognize different media types and manage the files as needed. Building a unique, data driven application allows for boundless possibilities in customizing the application. For example, some advertisements required both basic images and PDF versions of a single ad, something that would not have been possible without custom development.

Developing a site that can be managed directly by the client allows Alaska Airlines and WONGDOODY to make updates to their site without the unnecessary interaction with a developer or designer. This allows updates to their site to be made instantly, without complicated software.

The Client Management site allows the client and customer to communicate using custom calendars and applications that are tailor-made for their industry. WONGDOODY uses the secured website to distribute corporate graphic standards, share budget information, and disseminate a wide range of industry specific media information, like ISCI codes, radio taglines, media flowcharts, and status reports. The Client Management Application allows a large group to share information and communicate efficiently from anywhere; all through a simple web browser.

Washington State Department of Transportation

The Washington Department of Transportation, or WSDOT, has traditionally allowed the departments within their organization to design and develop their own sub-sites with little or no centralized control or unified direction. Partnering with advertising agency WONGDOODY, Eclectic Internet helped restructure parts of the existing WSDOT site, resulting in a more manageable design that allows for flexibility in the presentation of a great variety of content and the eventual migration to a content management system solution.

Additionally, we created various custom logos for different WSDOT programs, consulted with state employees on how to more intelligently display quantitative information to the public, and developed interactive map applications to assist website users in getting to the information they wished to see more efficiently. All this, along with the general restructuring of the site, has made the WSDOT site much more usable for the public.

Currently we have entered Phase II of the project with WSDOT, the redesign of the most heavily accessed area of the site, the Traffic and Weather pages. Data is collected from sources all over the state of Washington and compiled into maps and reports on the website using Cold Fusion, Java and other programming languages. Our present task will be to reorganize how this information is presented to the user, ultimately resulting in a more user-friendly interface that will get the user to pertinent data quickly and easily.
